In the middle of snow storm of February 16 2019, I gave birth to a beautiful baby girl in Riverton Utah. She is perfect and I just fell involve with her right away. I can't believe that it has been a year since that beautiful event happened. Though it was painful I would never trade it for anything else in this world.
My husband and I were wondering how can we celebrate her first birthday. As a new parents with different cultures, we had no idea how this supposed to be done? In the Philippines where I grew up most parents throw a big birthday party for their one year old child. In Indonesia where my husband is from parties are not really a big thing. While discussing about her upcoming birthday, we came up some questions that every parent might want to consider;
1. Why do we need to throw her a big party if she can't even remember the event yet?
2. What age should we throw her a big party?
3. How should we celebrate it?
You can answer them on your own but as for us here's what we think;
1. A one year old baby can't remember yet how they spent their first birthday. Instead of spending thousands of dollars, why not giving her a minimal celebration and use the money for some more important things for her to use. We decided to get her more books, bigger size clothes and opened her own bank account. We also set aside a budget for her photoshoot just so when she grow up she has some pictures to enjoy.
2 & 3. We decided that we will give her a big birthday celebration when she turns 3 years old. Hopefully she can remember everything by then. If big party would cause us a lot of stress our other options will be to give her a meaningful trip such as Disneyland etc.

We celebrated my daughter's first birthday by having her First Year Mark photoshoot. We invited 3 friends with a baby boy to celebrate with us. Just a simple finger foods and cakes for us and for her to munch. I decorated her high chair and we had fun games. She also open some of her birthday presents which basically it was just us who did it since she doesn't know what gifts are for.
Every parent or parents have their own choice. No matter how you would like it to be celebrated, it's always what's best for your little one.
